Seattle closes out Skole Saga, Acquires Top Prospect Cruz in Final Deadline Deal

The Seattle Mariners didn't stop with the Willy Polinia deal. Seattle GM Spencer Fascetta announced late last night that the team had dealt Supplemental Draft Selection Jake Skole to Pittsburgh for two prospects. Multiple reports earlier in the day noted discontent within the Seattle locker room, including Skole. Seattle managed to squeeze top pitching prospect Phillipo Cruz and outfielder Derrick Butler out of the deal. Cruz, 23, was a former draft selection of the Tokyo A's, and had not played this season. Butler, 22, adds to a large group of Outfielder prospects, and has hit .227 with 1 home run and 10 RBIs in parts of 63 games this season. Cruz is expected to make his first start of the season in Seattle's upcoming series in Baltimore, and Butler is expected to remain with the big league club.
