Seattle deals Tibago, McGuinness to Miami in newest Mariners Blockbuster

Everywhere you turn, a Seattle Mariner is donning a new uniform. The rebuilding project by GM Spencer Fascetta is in full swing, and this may be one of the best moves yet. ESPN's John Kruk has reported that Seattle finally ended the Ricardo Tibago sweepstakes, and sent him and first baseman Chris McGuinness to Miami. In return, Kruk reported, Seattle will receive highly touted first base prospect Luka Polanzki, and two 1st Round Draft Picks in the 2028 Entry Draft. Miami acquired the Chicago White Sox' 1st Rounder earlier this year in the David Prior deal. Fascetta has been adamant that he would accept only top dollar for Tibago, and it seems that he believes he has succeeded. Tibago has been somewhat discontented with the situation in Seattle, and, as the team no longer has a way to keep him under contract, Fascetta agreed to find him a trade early this season. He is 7-5 this season in 17 starts, with a 2.60 ERA and 69 strikeouts. McGuinness, 26, has been part of a 2-man tandem at first base the last few years with Eugene Patterson. In his 3rd professional season, he has struggled mightily at the plate, with only 1 home run and 11 RBIs in 53 games so far. He lost is spot in the lineup to supplemental draft selection Danry Vasquez earlier this year. Polanzki, Miami's 2027 1st Round Pick, has a home run and 5 RBIs in only 9 games this season.
